Students showcase PWC HRM skills in 2018 Tuna Festival Skills Olympics
Maintaining competent standards in offering HRM course in Davao, PWC participated at the 13th Tuna Festival Skills Olympics last September 3-4, 2018 upon the invitation of the City Government of Gensan through Goldenstate College. Schools from neighboring cities including Davao took part in the 2-day event competitions under the high school and college categories. PWC in particular participated in 2 competitions for high school, and all 12 competitions for college.
PWC was hailed champion for Table Napkin Folding in the high school category. In the college level, PWC was named champion for Tuna Pasta Salad and Waiters’ Relay, won silver for Cake Decorating, and bronze for Table Setting, Table Napkin Folding, Bartending, Market Basket Competition, and Fruit and Vegetable Carving. Other competitions the school participated in were Cake Decorating for the high school category and Tuna Cookie Presentation, Flavors of Asia Cold Sandwich Fruits and Berries to Drink, Grand Flower Arrangement, and Table Skirting with Centerpiece all for the college category.
“The significance of participating in competitions, especially on the interschool level, cannot be undermined,” said Hospitality Management program chair Mr. Erwin C. Tangonan, “aside from culmination of PWC HRM skills and competencies, the experience gives motivation to our students in the sense that it encourages involvement and instills in them interest that develops into passion.”
Overall, PWC landed 1st runner-up and bagged Php 23,000 worth of cash prize. The school has been participating in the Tuna Festival Skills Olympics for 6 years now, of which it has been a consistent placer.
