The PWC of Davao and partner institutions held the Ceremonial Blessing and Inauguration of the Simulation and Training for Industry and Technology-transitioning Creative Hubs (STITCH) last November 6, 2020.
The first-ever training facility specifically for the fashion and design industry, STITCH is a collaborative venture of the PWC of Davao Center for Innovation and Social Ventures (CISV), Davao Fashion and Design Council Foundation Incorporated (DFDCI), CHED K-12 Transition Program Institutional Development and Innovation Grant, Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) Region XI.
DTI XI provided almost a million pesos’ worth of start-up equipment. TESDA accorded 75 full scholarship slots in the Diploma Program in Fashion Technology. CHED-IDIG provided the capacity and capability-building traction for heritage-based creative enterprise and innovation. DFDCFI is co-organizing the training development tracks. Lastly, the British Council Creative Innovators Program Fellowship together with Nesta mentored the project management team for hub leadership.
DTI Davao City Director Rachel Remetio, DFDCI President Dodjie Batu, and CISV Head Emi Englis officially unveiled STITCH through the ribbon-cutting ceremony followed by the blessing rites led by Rev. Fr. Zalde Abonale from San Pablo Parish.
PWC Chancellor Professor Vicente Antonio V. Pijano III extended his congratulations and support to STITCH through a video message. DFDC president Mr. Jose Rhoniel L. Batu, DTI XI City Director Ms. Rachel S. Remetio, and TESDA XI Regional Director Engineer Lorenzo Macapili personally delivered their message of appreciation and commitment as partners for this endeavor, which was then concretized in the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing that ensued.
A shared service facility, STITCH has started to build technology-based equipment to benefit designers, design students and faculty, and MSMEs in Region XI. The Fine Arts and Design Team composed of Fashion and Industrial Design program chair Junnie Artajo, Visual Communication and Painting program chair Joseph Daniel Malabar, and Fashion Lab Custodian and Technical Garment Instructor Renee Sinfuego showcased these cutting-edge equipment through a demonstration session.
Ms. Remetio further assured STITCH of DTI’s assistance in improving the facility’s operational efficiency and effectiveness.
With COVID-19 safety measures strongly incorporated in the facility design and technology, STITCH sets its solid foundation to sew futures, one stitch at a time.
