PWC of Davao: Can evil triumph?

April 02, 2023

The stakeholders of the Philippine Women’s College (PWC) of Davao continue to express dismay as the power struggle over the control of the school between the existing administration and the camp of Mr. Noel Canivel, the self-appointed president of the school, remains unresolved.
The ongoing intra-corporate dispute has recently been elevated to the courts.

In a signed statement of concern, the various stakeholders of PWC have earlier demanded that the “status quo” be maintained. PWC personnel and the Parents’ Association have likewise expressed the same so that school operations would not be dragged into the controversy.

On their part, PWC alumni have also called for an end to the hostile “takeover” by the Canivel Group and spare the community, especially at this time that the school is celebrating its proud legacy on its 70th founding anniversary.

While it has been made possible for school personnel to receive their salaries during the stand-off, the administration officers have not. Worse, in spite of the long weekend ahead, the student assistants (SA) – PWC scholars who are working students accorded free tuition and miscellaneous fees in exchange for their services — have not received the minimum allowance due them. According to an alumna who learned about the plight of the SAs, “These deserving students are PWC scholars whose minimal allowance is also being withheld by Mr. Canivel and his minions.”
“Will the SAs not be spared?” asked a graduate. An irate alumna said, “They are pure evil. There’s a long vacation ahead and everyone needs what they have worked hard for.”

In the midst of this controversy, a number of stakeholders now refer to the self-appointed president as “Evil Can-evil,” pun intended.
